May 2025 Blog Post

Hi everyone!

With May in front of us and summer just around the corner, I often catch myself daydreaming about being outside, soaking up the spring air, and enjoying the longer days. While I love this time of year, I’ve noticed that shifting into that relaxed, outdoor mindset can pull my attention away from crafting, and before I know it, I’m facing a creative block.

Let’s be real, we’ve all been there. You sit down in your craft space, full of good intentions… and suddenly, nothing! The ideas won’t come, the motivation’s gone, and you’re left staring at your tools wondering why the spark has disappeared.

Trust me, you’re not alone. Even as someone who lives and breathes crafting every day, I hit creative blocks too. It’s completely normal, and it doesn’t mean you’re failing or that you’ve lost your touch. It just means you need to give your creativity a little nudge.

Here are some of the things I personally do when I feel stuck, and they really help:

🌟 Switch to a Small, Low-Pressure Project

When a big project feels overwhelming, I turn to something tiny and fun. A quick decal, a keychain or a simple Canva graphic can remind me why I love creating in the first place — without the stress of perfection.

🌟 Clean or Organize My Craft Space

It’s amazing how much clearer my mind feels after I tidy up. Whether it’s sorting vinyl scraps or wiping down my workspace, decluttering often clears mental cobwebs too.

🌟 Try a New Technique or Tool

Nothing shakes up a rut like trying something new. I’ll test out a material I’ve been curious about or explore a new feature in Cricut Design Space or Canva. Sometimes, play leads to breakthroughs.

🌟 Set a Timer for 15 Minutes

I tell myself, “Just 15 minutes.” No commitment beyond that. More often than not, once I start, I find myself settling in and pushing through the block without even noticing.

🌟 Find Inspiration Away from the Craft Room

When my head feels stuck, I step away. A walk, a scroll through Pinterest or even a wander through a local store can fill me up with fresh ideas.

🌟 Check in With My Crafting Community

I turn to my online community or groups, ask a question, share a struggle or just scroll through what others are making. It’s comforting and inspiring to see what fellow crafters are up to, and it always reminds me I’m not in this alone.

🌟 Make an “Idea Dump” List

This is one of my secret weapons! I grab a notebook and jot down every idea in my head — good, bad or silly. It clears the mental clutter and sometimes sparks new directions I hadn’t considered.

🌟 Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection

I remind myself that done is better than perfect. Every project teaches us something and it’s okay if it’s not picture-perfect. What matters is that we’re creating, learning and having fun.

🌟 Give Myself Permission to Rest

And yes — sometimes the best thing to do is nothing at all. I remind myself that rest is part of the creative process. Taking a break without guilt usually brings me back with even more energy.

Final Thoughts

Creative blocks are part of the journey — for all of us. The key is to be kind to yourself and have a few tools in your back pocket to gently get things moving again.

If you’ve been in a slump lately, I hope one (or a few!) of these ideas help you feel recharged. And if you have your own go-to strategies, I’d love to hear them!

Happy Crafting! 🎨✂️
